Tithing…

If you’ve heard it once you’ve heard it a thousand times. “It’s time to take tithe and offering”. There’s just something about that phrase that we almost fear and for some reason cringe at. Why is this the case? I recently asked myself this question. And the simple answer is, well… sometimes we can be selfish and greedy. Oops!!! Did I just call us out! You know it! Unfortunately, we are a very selfish and greedy society. Which brings me to my very quick, easy and downright simple point. God has called us to give. So do it! But remember, like it says in 2 Corinthians 9:7

“Don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”

Even when Paul sent people to collect the Corinthians tithes he asked them to give willingly and not grudgingly. Simply put, give with a cheerful heart or don’t bother giving at all. You see God doesn’t need our money what he wants is our faith and love for others. Like Paul said,

“It was your enthusiasm to give that stirred up many of the Macedonian believers to begin giving.”

I hope that you didn’t hear just another lesson on tithing but that you heard a lesson about faith and the joys of giving and being apart of leading people to Christ through our actions of servitude.
